Privacy Policy
What Smart Pantry stores, where it is stored, and how to delete it. There is no advertising and no tracking of any kind, and nothing records how you use the app.
What is collected
Your email address, because an account needs a way to identify you and a way to reset your password.
Your display name, if you set one. It is only what the app greets you by, it is optional, and clearing the field removes it.
The items you enter — pantry item names, categories, quantities, units, expiry dates, food groups, and your shopping list.
Feedback you send, if you use Send feedback in the app's Settings — the message, what kind it is, and the app version and platform it came from. It is stored against your account so a reply can reach you.
Together with what Apple or Google send if you sign in with them, set out below, that is the entire list. There is no address, no contacts, no location and no device identifiers.
Signing in with Apple or Google
Sign in with Apple gives Smart Pantry your email address and, the first time you use it, your name. If you choose Hide My Email, Apple gives a private forwarding address instead, and your real address is never shared with the app.
Sign in with Google gives Smart Pantry your name, your email address and a link to your Google profile picture. The picture link is kept with your sign-in record; the app does not show it or use it.
Apple and Google are not sent anything from your pantry.
Camera
Barcode and receipt scanning use the camera. The picture is read on your own device and is never uploaded, never saved to your photo library and never sent anywhere. What comes out of a scan is the text you confirm on screen, which is then stored as ordinary pantry items.
Scanning a barcode does send the barcode number itself to Open Food Facts, an open product database, to find out what the product is called. Nothing about you or your account is sent with it.
Payments
If you subscribe on this website, payment is processed by Stripe, who collect your card details directly. Smart Pantry never sees, receives or stores a card number. What is kept against your account is a Stripe customer reference, your subscription's status and its renewal date — enough to know which plan you are on, and nothing about how you paid for it.
If you subscribe inside the iOS app instead, the payment is handled entirely by Apple and Smart Pantry never sees your card. The app uses RevenueCat, a subscription service, to check with Apple that your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives your account's ID — a random code, not your name or email address — and the purchase record Apple returns. Nothing from your pantry is sent to it. RevenueCat also uses those records for the subscription reports the developer sees — how many people subscribe, renew or cancel. They are never used for advertising.
Pre-booking list
If you pre-book on this website, we keep your email address, the date, and the short tag in the link you followed — for example "tiktok" — so we know which posts reach people. No name, no IP address, no cookies and no device details are collected with it.
The address is used to email you when Smart Pantry launches, with your 15% offer, sent through an email delivery service. If you then subscribe on this website with the same email, the discount is applied automatically, and the subscription records that you pre-booked and which link you came from. To be taken off the list, reply to the launch email or email the address at the bottom of this page.
What is not collected
Nothing records how you use the app: no usage analytics, no advertising identifiers, no third-party trackers. Your data is never sold or rented, and it is never used to build a profile of you or to train anything.
Sharing with a household
Nothing is shared unless you create or join a household in the app. Once you are in one, the pantry and shopping list items you add are visible to everyone in that household, and any of them can edit or delete them. Items you had before joining stay private unless you choose Share my current pantry.
Other members see the household's name and how many people are in it. They are not shown your email address or your name. Your record of what you used and what you wasted is never shared.
If you leave, you stop seeing what the other members added, and the items you added stay in the shared pantry. If the household is deleted, including when the person who created it deletes their account, sharing ends for everyone and each item goes back to the private pantry of whoever added it.
Where it is stored
On Supabase, hosted in London (eu-west-2), which provides the database and the sign-in system. Every row is protected by row-level security, meaning the database itself enforces who can read or write your items — your account, and the members of any household you share with — not merely the app asking politely.
Traffic between the app and the database is encrypted with HTTPS.
Notifications
Expiry reminders are off until you switch them on in Settings. When enabled, the reminder is scheduled and delivered entirely on your own device. No notification is ever sent from a server, and nothing about what you own leaves your phone in order to produce one.
Deleting your data
In the app, open Settings, then Plan & membership, and choose Delete account. That permanently removes your account, your pantry items, your shopping list and any feedback you have sent. If you are in a household, that includes the items you added to the shared pantry and shopping list, so the other members stop seeing them. It happens immediately and it cannot be undone.
Deleting individual items works the same way — once deleted, they are gone, not archived.
Children
Smart Pantry is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
